Etch

I got lost in the heat
and held on to you for grip,
never realizing that
you were lost
too.

We thought
it was enough
to live off each other,
that our broken up halves
would nourish the other
but we both know
what happened
with that.

You were always
skin and bones
but now your skin
is etched
with my name
and your bones
are all broken
from bending.

If only it wasn’t so easy
to make a home
in someone
else,

if only it wasn’t so easy
to fall asleep
in your
bed,

maybe then
I would have awoken
by now.
